LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - JUNE 21: Jamie Carragher speaks with John Barnes for Sky Sports after the Premier League match between Everton FC and Liverpool FC at Goodison Park on June 21, 2020 in Liverpool, England. Jamie Carragher has stated that he expects Liverpool to ‘re-invest’ any money they bring in from sales, as he was making reference to the Gini Wijnaldum rumours.

Added with that, Carragher also feels that it’s ‘not the end of the world’ if the Premier League champions are unable to land Thiago’s signature this summer, as he told Sky Sports PL (12/09/20 at 6:45 pm).

The Mirror and Bleacher Report have previously claimed that Wijnaldum is a transfer target for Barcelona, whilst Jurgen Klopp would like to add Thiago to his squad.

Former Reds defender, Carragher, was asked about what he knows about the Wijnaldum rumours and also offered his pretty blunt thoughts on Thiago.

“I think if Liverpool bring in any money then they will re-invest that,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “It does seem they have to sell before they buy. That was certainly the case with Dejan Lovren left and a new left-back came in.

“I think the huge clamour for Thiago is a little disrespectful to this midfield and the performances they have put in for the past three or four years.

“If he doesn’t come in, it’s not the end of the world because it has been a fantastic midfield for Liverpool.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Liverpool’s defensive performance on the opening weekend of the Premier League season wasn’t something to shout about.

Whilst Klopp’s side picked up all three points, the German will be hoping for his players to be more robust in their ways for the forthcoming games this season.

If they are not then they may need to add some more quality to their squad than they previously thought because Klopp could, at the very least, do with some freshness to his squad.
