Gary Neville questioned why, during Sky Sports’ live coverage of Tottenham’s win against Manchester City, Rodri had his ‘head in his hands’ and was protesting when Mike Dean overturned Aymeric Laporte goal.
There was just under 30 minutes on the clock when Laporte found himself free in Tottenham’s penalty area, and when he thumped home, he thought he had levelled the scores for his side.
But, the most-talked-about technology in sport – VAR- judged that Gabriel Jesus, who assisted the left-footed Frenchman, had brought the ball down with his arm before he assisted him.
Whilst debate still rages over that decision, Neville was pretty clear on commentary that the right call was made, as he then reacted to Rodri’s reaction to the decision.
“I think that is handball,” said Neville. “I think it hits his right arm before going onto his chest. He’s [Mike Dean] changed his mind.
“I’m not sure why Rodri’s got his head in his hands. The referee has been over to the monitor to have a look at it.
“I’m not quite sure whether he is questioning that or something else.”
