Gabriel has posted a picture of him and new Arsenal team-mate David Luiz on Twitter, revealing that he’s ‘learning everyday’ from his compatriot.
The 22-year-old centre-back joined Arsenal from Lille in a £27 million deal a little earlier this month.
In doing so, Gabriel becomes the second Brazilian central defender at the Gunners, after the veteran Luiz.
Luiz joined the Emirates Stadium side last summer but had a mixed first season in North London.
Yes, he was exceptional in FA Cup semi-final and final wins over Manchester City and Chelsea, but that came on the back of some horrific displays in the Premier League during Project Restart.
In fact, the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain star conceded five penalties in the Premier League last season – a record.
And here’s how Arsenal fans responded to Gabriel’s tweet about learning from the 33-year-old.
All jokes aside, Luiz seems to get a fair bit of abuse, but he’s clearly an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
There was outrage earlier in the summer when Arsenal announced that they had given him a new one-year deal, shortly after a bombscare performance in a 3-0 drubbing away at Manchester City, in which he got sent off and conceded a penalty.
But he obviously has an important behind-the-scenes role when it comes to helping younger players – and this picture with Gabriel is further evidence of that.
