Ally McCoist has stated that he was ‘not sure’ why James Tavernier was ‘upset’ during Celtic’s 3-0 win against Rangers on Wednesday night, as he told Sky Sports Football.
When Reo Hatate opened the scoring for Celtic inside the opening five minutes, Rangers, or in this case, Tavernier, was seemingly unhappy at the goal being allowed because two of their players were down.
When the corner came in, Gers duo Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo ran into each other and they were on the floor when Hatate struck his shot from the edge of the area.
As the officials consulted with one another regarding the goal, Tavernier could be seen complaining to the referee.
But McCoist, speaking after the goal went in during his commentary for Sky, didn’t understand what the problem was from the Rangers right-back because he thinks there was nothing wrong with the goal.
“Not at all (no complaints),” said McCoist. “I think what happens is that the two Rangers players (Bassey and Aribo) run into each other.
“But I don’t think Rangers have any complaints. Unless they (the officials) have seen something I have missed. I thought the two Rangers players ran into each other.
“I am not sure what Tavernier is upset about. He is having a word with the referee. But, from my position here, it just looked as though Aribo and Bassey ran into each other.”

It was a dominant performance from Celtic and one that is a statement of intent from Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The Bhoys are now sitting top of the tree in the Scottish Premiership table, but they will be well aware that the hard work starts now.
Aside from when the Gers won the title under Steven Gerrard, those in Celtic colours have previously shown that they are stronger during the second half of the campaign compared to their rivals.
It remains to be seen whether or not that happens again, but Celtic now have a great chance of winning back the Scottish Premiership crown.
