Chris Sutton says he is ‘not sure’ Tottenham transfer target, Gareth Bale, is capable of playing at the top level after he helped Wales qualify for the 2022 World Cup on Sunday in Cardiff.

Bale’s contract at Real Madrid is due to expire in June, with many questioning where the 32-year-old will head next in his career? Perhaps a return to Spurs?

If Wales were beaten by Ukraine in their World Cup play-off final on Sunday, then perhaps the five-time Champions League winner would have retired.

But now he has the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to look forward to and he needs to find a new club this summer.

Sutton was reacting to the possibility of Bale joining Championship side Cardiff City and what the future holds for the legendary Welshman, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

On talk of Cardiff: “Yes, Colin Murray (BBC Presenter), yes inside source saying Cardiff,” said Sutton. “I mean it’s an interesting one, isn’t it?!

“Can he play at the top level in the Premier League? I am not so sure he can now.”

BALE DOESN’T SUIT CONTE’S SYSTEM

When Wales were preparing for Euro 2020, Bale needed regular minutes and he headed back to Tottenham, as a result.

He played 20 Premier League games under Jose Mourinho, scoring 11 goals and he was able to get his engine going for the delayed Euro 2020.

There’s no doubt he will now be looking for something similar, but at the end of the day, another return to Spurs should probably be ruled out.

Bale doesn’t suit Antonio Conte’s system, his front three are established, and the demands of the Spurs boss without the ball isn’t probably what the World Cup-bound player is looking for.
