Jamie Carragher has said on Sky Sports Premier League (9:20pm, February 13, 2023) that he saw a different side to Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield on Monday evening.
The former Liverpool defender noted that Gakpo showed remarkable pace in the Premier League game against Everton that he had not noticed before.
Carragher was on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports for the Premier League match between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield on Monday evening.
Jurgen Klopp’s side won the Merseyside derby 2-0.
While analysing the chance that Gakpo created for Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez in the 62nd minute, Carragher noted the 23-year-old’s pace.
The Netherlands international forward scored for Liverpool in the 49th minute.

Carragher said about Gakpo: “Now that he has got his goal, Gakpo, we are maybe seeing what he is about.
“He is very neat and tidy with the ball. We have not seen that before, that pace past players, unselfish as well.”
Impressive
In our view, Cody Gakpo played well for Liverpool against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday evening.
It was one of the forward’s best game for Liverpool since his move to the Merseyside club in the January transfer window.
Once the forward got his goal, it seemed that he started playing with more freedom and with more confidence.
Gakpo has only just come to Liverpool, so we have to be patient with him and give him time.
