Speaking on his YouTube channel, Charles Watts has provided an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Lisandro Martinez amid ongoing transfer speculation.
The Gunners have an active interest in Martinez, but unfortunately for Arsenal, Manchester United seem to be ahead in the race for his signature.
According to Watts, this deal is looking less and less likely with each passing day, but he says that a source told him very recently that the door wasn’t completely closed on this one.
What’s been said?
Watts spoke about Martinez.
“In terms of Lisandro Martinez, that one is beginning, from people I speak to, it’s looking less and less likely that Arsenal are going to get it over the line with him him. I’m not ruling it out. Someone I spoke to this morning said that the door is not closed, but out of the two clubs who are in for Martinez, which is obviously Arsenal and Manchester United, United are the ones that are really actively pushing for this transfer,” Watts said.

Don’t need him
Of course, it’s painful to miss out on any transfer target, but with Ajax now looking for over £50m for the defender, it’s fair to say that this would be an unnecessary signing.
Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are three perfectly adequate options at centre-back, and while it’s been reported that Arsenal see Martinez as a left-back, Kieran Tierney doesn’t really need replacing.
Martinez is a talented player, but there are other players out there that Arsenal would be better off spending £50m on.
The Gunners shouldn’t be too upset if Manchester United beat them to this signing.
