Leeds United slipped to their biggest defeat under Thomas Christiansen on Tuesday night, losing 3-1 away at Cardiff City in a torrid evening in South Wales.

The Whites beat Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat at Millwall, and manager Christiansen will have been hoping for better fortunes on the road this time around.

However, his side fell apart at the Cardiff City Stadium, with their defeat starting with a superb run from Junior Hoilett, and his cutback found Kenneth Zohore, who fired home from close range.

Hoilett then got in on the act himself, smashing a long-range strike past Felix Wiedwald to make it 2-0, before Leeds defender Liam Cooper was sent off on the stroke of half time for two bookings.

10-man Leeds unsurprisingly couldn’t keep Cardiff from scoring again, as a flowing passing move resulted in Zohore tapping home from close range to make it 3-0, ending the game as a contest.

Kemar Roofe’s deflected strike did give Leeds a consolation, but the result sees Cardiff leapfrog Leeds into top spot in the Championship, with Christiansen now faced with two successive away defeats.

Many criticised Christiansen’s team selection having left out both Samu Saiz and Pierre-Michel Lasogga, and former Leeds midfielder Andy Couzens offered his thoughts on the game on Twitter.

Couzens suggested that Christiansen got his team selection wrong, and called up on the players to bounce back against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend – but did offer some positivity, reminding fans of the great position Leeds find themselves in.
