Ray Parlour says Yves Bissouma ‘hasn’t really done it’ at Tottenham Hotspur following his 2022 summer transfer from Brighton.
When the defensive-minded midfielder joined Tottenham under Antonio Conte, there was a lot of hype and hope around his signing.
Spurs ended up paying £25 million (Sky Sports) for Yves Bissouma’s talents, but for large parts of last season, he struggled, with Parlour claiming that he just ‘hasn’t stepped up’, as he told talkSPORT.
When Bissouma initially made the switch, he needed time to settle in, but injuries kept pulling him down.
Just before and after the 2022 Qatar World Cup, he had no rhythm to his game and it didn’t help matters that Tottenham themselves started to decline big time, including Conte getting booted out.
A lot of things were going wrong, and heading into Bissouma’s second season at Hotspur Way, Parlour isn’t impressed by what he has seen so far.
“Bissouma, he’s not really done it for me, since he went in from Brighton,” said Parlour. “He’s been injured. But he hasn’t stepped up as much as the Spurs fans would have liked.”

That three-at-the-back system and two in midfield just didn’t suit the Spurs players last season, especially Bissouma.
But with an attack-minded coach in Ange Postecoglou now in the dugout, he will get the best out of the 26-year-old.
A three-man midfield of Bissouma, new signing James Maddison, with perhaps Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg because Rodrigo Bentancur is injured at the moment, is far better than what was being dished out under Conte.
