Emmanuel Petit says he always believed in Aaron Ramsdale and felt that Arsenal signed a ‘great’ goalkeeper when he first arrived from Sheffield United.

The Arsenal legend added that ‘for ages’ his former side have been missing a goalkeeper of Aaron Ramsdale’s ilk and he has proven his worth this season.

Over the course of the Premier League campaign, where Mikel Arteta’s men are sitting top of the table, Ramsdale has kept 12 clean sheets and he will be hoping that continues post-international break.

The Gunners have some seriously pressured games coming up, including a trip to Anfield, St James’ Park and that all-important tie at the Etihad – Roy Keane sent a warning to Arsenal about Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland.

Either way, if Arsenal can see through those fixtures, then, by the end of April, they might just be champions of England again.

But, one thing is for sure, someone like Ramsdale has played a massive part in all of this, which was touched upon by Emmanuel Petit, as he told Premier League Productions (19/03/23 at 2:50 pm).

“I think he is a great goalkeeper,” said Petit. “He has shown great performances and character since he signed from Sheffield United. That was missing at Arsenal, for ages, a great goalkeeper.

“Not really (Ramsdale proving him wrong) because I always appreciated this goalkeeper. Sheffield United was conceding so many goals, but was it his fault? I am not sure.”

RAMSDALE GETTING BETTER

At 24-years-old, this is just the start of what could prove to be a trophy-winning and possibly legendary career for Ramsdale in north London.

The England international is proof of how to pick yourself up, regardless of how many knocks you take. The £62k-a-week man (Spotrac) was relegated twice before moving to the Emirates.

But, fast forward to the present, and he is about six weeks away from putting a Premier League winners medal around his neck.
