Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are looking for a permanent successor to Mark Warburton.

Barry Ferguson has suggested to BBC Sportsound that he would be open to the idea of managing Rangers.

Rangers are looking for a permanent manager following the departure of Mark Warburton earlier this month.

Warburton, who was appointed the Gers boss in the summer of 2015, parted company with the Glasgow giants following a run of poor results.

Former Rangers midfielder Ferguson has admitted that he is not yet ready to take charge of the Ibrox outfit.

The 39-year-old former Scotland international recently stepped down from the managerial role at Clyde.

“I’ve still got loads to learn,” Ferguson told BBC Sportsound. “I don’t think I am ready to manage at that level.

“I’m not stupid enough to say I’m ready. I still think I have got a lot to learn. The last two-and-a-half years have been great for me. But I have not had any contact from Rangers. I don’t know where these stories have come from.”

“It was a club I was at from eight years old,” added Ferguson. “I left for a couple of years to go down to Blackburn but I came back. It was a dream of mine to play for Rangers and then to captain them and win things.

“When I look just now, it isn’t going great for them but I am sure in time they will come back. Let’s be honest, Celtic are miles in front just now and Aberdeen are doing a lot better under Derek McInnes. But Rangers is a club still close to my heart.”

Ferguson is in the early stages of his managerial career, and it would be a risk from Rangers to make him the first-team boss.

However, what the Scotsman has is experience of playing for the Gers – he knows and fully understands the size of the club.

Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 43 points from 26 matches, nine points behind second-placed Aberdeen.

The Gers will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on St Johnstone at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
