Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool and their poor start to this season.
The Reds sit firmly in midtable after eight games this term and with a game against Manchester City on the horizon at the weekend, the Merseyside club could well fall further down the table.
Jurgen Klopp has recently admitted that the Liverpool aren’t in the title race, and Carragher has echoed the same sentiment on this podcast, stating that his former club would be more than happy with a top four finish right now.

The pundit gave his view on where Liverpool may finish.
“I don’t think Liverpool are in the title race, not because of the points they have right now, they’re just not playing well enough to be in that conversation. Right now I think Klopp and Liverpool would be quite pleased with a top four position,” Carragher said.
Don’t write them off just yet
Everyone has been very quick to write Liverpool off in this title race, but let’s not forget, they very nearly clawed back a 14-point gap last season.
We’ve seen comebacks like this recently. Manchester City were 8th in mid-December back in 2020/21, but they would eventually win the league at a canter.
The Reds aren’t at their best right now, but we should all know after five years of Jurgen Klopp being at the club that it’s utterly foolish to ever write this team off. Especially after just eight games.
Liverpool aren’t likely to win the league, but it really isn’t as impossible as certain fans and pundits are making out.
