PSG striker Mauro Icardi, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur, would be better suited to Jose Mourinho’s Roma, former Italy ace Cristiano Zanetti has told Tuttomercatoweb.
Of course, Icardi’s chances of a summer switch to England depend largely on who will take Mourinho’s place in the north London hot seat.
Antonio Conte famously bombed the Argentina international out of the San Siro in 2019, insisting controversy-courting Icardi wasn’t “part of the project” before bringing in Romelu Lukaku as his replacement.

It seems unlikely, then, that the one-time Inter Milan captain will join forces with Conte at Tottenham any time soon despite claims from L’Equipe suggesting Icardi is a candidate to replace want-away talisman Harry Kane.
But could Icardi, a penalty-box poacher who could hardly be more different than predator-turned-playmaker Kane, link up with a former Spurs boss in the Italian capital instead?
“(Icardi) seems to me (a player suited) to Roma. He is a static one up front and, for Mou, he could be a Diego Milito-style player,” says Zanetti, the former Inter and Roma midfielder.

Icardi recently fell out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino at PSG, his anonymous performance in the Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester City highlighting the striker’s inability to have an impact from open play.
