Diego Carlos has opened up on his Instagram story about his early struggles at Aston Villa following his summer transfer from Sevilla.
Steven Gerrard was in the Aston Villa dugout when Diego Carlos arrived as one of his big-money captures, but after his second game, his season was seemingly over.
As Villa celebrated their first home win of the campaign against Everton, their new centre-back was hobbling off with what turned out to be a snapped Achilles tendon.

For many, the writing was on the wall and the 30-year-old’s season at his new club was already over before he could get started.
But these last nine or so months have been very challenging for the player, mentally more than anything.
And he has come through it, including making a return to action during his side’s defeat to Wolves over the weekend.
As fans were firing questions at the Brazil star on his IG story, he was asked how he has found life at Villa given his injury and he issued the following response.
“At the beginning, it was very challenging,” said Carlos. “Not only for me, but the whole family.
“But I have to thank them a lot because they were always with me during all the process and it was not easy.
“In addition to my family, my friends and the entire AVFC team. The affection from the public. Thanks for everything.”

CARLOS TO START V TOTTENHAM?
Villa have lost their spark and those European places are starting to slip away from them at the wrong time after back-to-back defeats.
Ryan Mason’s Tottenham visit the Midlands at the weekend hoping to extend their gap between Villa to six points.
But could Unai Emery unleash Carlos for the first time under his stewardship and possibly start him against Spurs? It wouldn’t be a surprise if Ezri Konsa is shifted to right back and Carlos starts alongside Tyrone Mings.
