Paul Robinson has claimed that Leeds United fans were at Thorp Arch to see Marcelo Bielsa off after his sacking from the club, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports.

The former goalkeeper stated that it’s ‘not often you see’ such a reaction from supporters when a manager has been given the boot.

Given that Bielsa helped end Leeds United’s near two-decade wait to return to the big time, it’s understandable that he is being held in such high regard by everyone associated with the Yorkshire club.

It wouldn’t be a surprise, come Leeds’ next home game under their new boss Jesse Marsch, that it’s Bielsa’s name that is being sung by supporters first and not the American’s name.

Aston Villa will be their opponents and it’s fair to say that many will still probably be hurt by Bielsa’s exit, as Robinson shared his own thoughts.

“Not often you see a manager get sacked from a club, then thousands of fans swarm outside of the stadium saying ‘the manager shouldn’t be sacked’, said Robinson.

“Or go to the training ground and see the manager off. He is held in such high regard for what he has done for this club.

“He took a club that was 14th in the Championship to 9th in the Premier League in three years and did it by playing some of the most attractive football you have seen.”

Marsch is the man who is now shouting out instructions and putting on new training drills at Thorp Arch.

Under Bielsa, the Leeds players would partake in murderball on a weekly basis in training.

That’s probably come to an end now to the relief of the players because many spoke about the gruelling nature of it.

Nonetheless, Marsch doesn’t have much time to turn things around with Leicester City their first opponents at the weekend.
