West Ham United defender James Collins still hopes to be handed a new contract at the London Stadium for next season.

James Collins still hopes to be handed a contract extension at West Ham United, promising fans an update on his situation in the coming weeks.
Collins, an 11-year veteran of the club, is now at the end of his contract in east London with no indication yet from the club as to whether his services will be retained for next season.
The 34-year-old was handed the captain’s armband by skipper Mark Noble for the final five minutes of their side’s season-closing victory over Everton on Sunday, and appeared to bid farewell to those in attendance at the London Stadium after the final whistle.

Noble would later pay tribute to the former Wales international in a social media post before urging the club to extend his stay.
With a message posted through his Instagram account, Collins has revealed he still hopes to be retained by the club in some capacity next season, believing he has still plenty to offer “on and off the pitch” – an indication the centre half is open to an offer to join the club’s coaching staff.
Collins has made over 200 appearances for the Hammers during two spells at the club and currently stands as West Ham’s second-longest serving player behind Noble.
