Gary Neville has admitted that he has changed his mind about Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League title, after Tottenham Hotspur’s and Chelsea’s improvements.
Speaking on his self-titled podcast, Neville admits that there was a stage when he felt that Liverpool could run away with the league.
However, he now expects the Reds to be given far more competition from both Tottenham and Chelsea this term.
“Is it a season where Lampard and Jose Mourinho could be up against each other in a title race? We’d never have thought it,” he said.
“We thought Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, it would just be a two horse race.
“Then, having watched City in the first two weeks of the season, I thought Liverpool would just run away with it.
“But not now, not with the Van Dijk injury, I just think that exposes them a lot more.”

Liverpool have so far actually coped well since an injury to Virgil van Dijk.
Although the Dutchman is a big loss, the Reds have continued to pick up victories, even with their injury problems stacking up.
Liverpool looked in brilliant form last night, as they dismantled Leicester City 3-0 at Anfield, to prove that they remain a force even with so many players out.
Tottenham and Chelsea have also been strong this term though, and will now harbour ambitions of sticking with Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Spurs are currently ahead of Liverpool in the standings, while Chelsea sit just two points behind.
