Don Hutchison has praised Nathaniel Phillips on Twitter following the Liverpool defender’s performance against Arsenal at the weekend.

The former Liverpool midfielder, who now works as a pundit for ESPN, is impressed by how Phillips is playing at the moment and how he is keeping things simple.

Hutchison has praised the 24-year-old Englishman for doing things his way and not trying to be another Virgil van Dijk.

Impressive performances

Phillips is having a very good season on a personal level, and his performance against Arsenal at the weekend was very encouraging.

The 24-year-old kept the Arsenal attackers at bay and was a rock at the back, and manager Jurgen Klopp will surely be pleased with how the Englishman has progressed and developed this campaign.

According to WhoScored, Phillips has made nine starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League and has played once in the Champions League for the Reds so far this season.

Praise for Diogo Jota

Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has praised Diogo Jota, who scored for the Reds against Arsenal in the Premier League at the weekend.

Owen said Premier League Productions on Optus Sport: “He’s been a stunning arrival. You think what might have been, had he not got injured for that period of time. He’s made a staggering impact, a brilliant bit of business. He can score goals in anyway, play in midfield.

“They can hang their hat on him for years. That trio of players, Firmino, Mane and Salah – all of a certain age where they will get good years out of them – but you have to think about younger players. They can hang their hat on Jota for the next 10 years.”
