Jose Mourinho has told his Tottenham pre-match press conference that he has spoken to Everton-linked Harry Winks about his future.
The Spurs boss shared that ‘many players’ have spoken to him, including Winks, whose game time has reduced significantly since the start of this delayed Premier League season.
The Mirror previously claimed that Everton are admirers of both Winks and Alli and would like to add either player to their squad when the transfer window re-opens next month.
But it seems there is ‘no way’ Mourinho will allow his midfield technician to leave out on loan in January, which would be a potential blow to those admirers on Merseyside.
“Yes, he came to me,” said Mourinho. “But not just him. Many players, they come to me.
“I have my office on the first floor. But I also have a little space on the ground floor next to the players dressing room where I used to be before and after the training session to make it easier for them. So, it’s easy for them to just go around the corner and speak with me.
“So, yes Winks come to speak with me – in relation to Winks [leaving] on loan in January, no way.”
It’s interesting that Mourinho states that Winks won’t leave out on loan, so could there be the chance of a permanent transfer?
Either way, it will be interesting to see if Everton test the waters in that regard because they have nothing to lose.
Winks isn’t a key player at Tottenham, so it’s not a case of trying to keep hold of an important figure, but he does have a very strong relationship with the supporters given that he came through the ranks.
Simply put, Winks’ game time needs to either increase in North London or he needs to earn it elsewhere because he’ll end up losing his place in the England squad if his situation continues as it is.
