Not ideal options but Rangers should consider offering either Leon Best or Dexter Blackstock a short-term deal

Glasgow Rangers arguably do not have enough options up front for Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha to rest easy.

With the transfer deadline now in the past, and no emergency loan window to exploit, Rangers supporters may be concerned that some areas of their squad may be left exposed as the Scottish Premiership season continues.

One of the areas where the Gers’ squad arguably looks the thinnest right now is up front, with Alfredo Morelos, Kenny Miller and Eduardo Herrera the only experienced options available currently – while Ryan Hardie will also be waiting to see if he can earn a chance at Ibrox.

Therefore, Caixinha should perhaps consider looking through the market for players who are currently free agents to try and bolster their options.

Though neither option would be ideal and would probably not capture the imagination, Caixinha would perhaps be wise to consider offering either Leon Best or Dexter Blackstock a short-term deal to get the team through to January when they can go out and properly add to the squad.

Both Best and Blackstock are experienced players in the English Championship but are both without a club after leaving their previous sides during the summer, and one could perhaps be a useful addition for the next few months.

If Rangers suffer a number of injuries up front, then having a greater number of established options may prove beneficial, and even if they do not feature often in the top flight, Caixinha using them exclusively in the cup competitions could also prove beneficial as it would take some of the pressure off Miller, Herrera and Morelos.

Offering them short-term deals until the winter window opens would surely come with little risk with the pair currently unattached.

And if the Gers did decide to make a move for one of the pair and they subsequently thrived, then perhaps Caixinha would have stumbled across a good fourth-striker option who has cost the club virtually no money.
