Alan Shearer has claimed that Son Heung-min didn’t have his best game during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, as he told Amazon Prime Sport.

Antonio Conte’s side were blown away by Erik ten Hag’s side, and in truth, if it wasn’t for Hugo Lloris in between the sticks, then this should and could have been a cricket score.

Before a ball was kicked, Man United would have been fully aware that Son and Harry Kane were the main threat to this counter-attacking team.

When Spurs are hitting you on the break, that’s when the fear rips through the opposition because they have speed, precision and a ruthless nature to their game.

But this ever-progressing Man United team, which lost their opening two Premier League matches under ten Hag, dealt with the north London club from back to front.

Son has blown hot and cold this season, from scoring a hat-trick one game, to getting subbed with nothing to his name in another, and at Old Trafford, he had another match to forget.

“He’s not had his best game Son up to now, has he?!” said Shearer. “That sort of sums up his game, that cross.”

PRESSURE AND EXPECTATIONS ON SON

Last season, Son produced his best career performance in Spurs colours when he won the Premier League’s Golden Boot award with 23 goals to his name.

When you rise so high, then it comes with expectations and Son is finding that out during this current campaign.

More is expected of him, and whilst he has had his moments this term, in truth, the consistency levels haven’t been there.

The positive Son can take is that Tottenham themselves, in regards to the Premier League table, are still in a strong position, and on other occasions, he is still missing big chances, so it’s not just a case of the player not scoring and also not hardly being seeing during the game.
