Jose Enrique says the Liverpool team ‘isn’t helping’ after Cody Gakpo’s debut saw Jurgen Klopp’s side record a 2-2 draw against Wolves in the third-round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

The former Liverpool left-back added on Instagram that ‘we can’t judge’ Gakpo yet, although, ‘he is not doing much’ so far.

From Gakpo’s perspective, this wasn’t a debut to remember like Virgil van Dijk’s when he scored against Everton on his debut.

But, for Gakpo, it wasn’t one that will keep him up all night because he did what was required of him.

The 23-year-old was handed 84 minutes by Klopp, with the Reds creating enough chances to win the game, but once again, they were fortunate not to end up on the losing side given their defensive display.

But what did fans make of Gakpo’s first taste of English football? Well, Enrique thinks the team isn’t helping his cause, as he told Lfcfanagram on Instagram.

“We can’t judge him just yet,” said Enrique. “First game and let’s see.

“But, for now, he is not doing much. It’s true that the team is not helping either.”

THE STORY OF LIVERPOOL’S SEASON

When the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar came along, Liverpool fans would have been glad for the break because of how the team were performing.

But despite that break, it’s the same old issues.

This isn’t going to be fixed on the training pitch because Liverpool’s midfield and defence just doesn’t have that bite and aggression anymore.

In previous years, it could suffocate its opponent into mistakes and put them on the back foot. But not anymore.

Gakpo will help, somewhat, because one thing that isn’t changing is the team producing chance after chance to score enough goals to win the game.
