Liverpool missed the chance to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table after frenetic draw at Brentford tonight.
The 2020 Premier League champions were held to a 3-3 stalemate away to the newly-promoted club in one of the best games that fans of either club – or a neutral – will see this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool thought they had done enough when Curtis Jones made it 3-2 on 67 minutes, shortly after the hosts equalised.
But the Bees’ forward Yoane Wissa popped up with a third for Brentford with eight minutes remaining.
And according to Alan Smith during his co-commentary on Sky Sports, Liverpool powerhouse Virgil van Dijk wasn’t pleased at the goal and told his colleagues as much in the form of a stare.
Smith said: “They are being pushed to the limit, Liverpool. Van Dijk is not happy, giving some of his teammates a glaring look.
Missed opportunity
With Manchester United and Chelsea both losing earlier on Saturday, to Aston Villa and Manchester City respectively, this was a massive chance for Liverpool to stake a claim and establish daylight.
And although Klopp’s side are still top of the Premier League, it’s only by a point when it could – and should – have been by three.
In fact, it was very nearly a defeat and would’ve been if not for Van Dijk, who brilliantly got around to deny Ivan Toney in the final stages.
But for the most part, it’s two points dropped by Liverpool.
