‘Not happy’: Graeme Souness makes Mo Salah claim during Liverpool’s loss to Leeds

Graeme Souness pointed out how Mo Salah ‘isn’t happy’ playing out wide for Liverpool as he scored during their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Anfield on Saturday.

The Liverpool legend added how Salah ghosted in from the wide areas, took a central spot and knocked in Andy Roberton’s cross to equalise for Jurgen Klopp’s side yesterday.

At that time, with Liverpool equalising less than 10 minutes after Rodrigo had scored, it would have been easy to think that the game was going to head one way.

It was still early in the first half, Jesse Marsch’s side hadn’t won since August and the Reds, despite their troubles away from home, were still picking up the points on Merseyside.

But youngster Crysencio Summerville brought the horror to Liverpool on Halloween and pushed Klopp’s men into the deeper trouble they were already in.

Perhaps the only positive came was Liverpool’s goal, and whilst Salah has been pushed out wide on occasions this term, with the arrival of Darwin Nunez, the midfielder-turned-pundit Souness shared how ‘the top players’ just never stop, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.

“This is a really good goal,” said Souness. “Andy Robertson keeps it alive and who is there? Mo Salah.

“Salah isn’t happy being out wide. He knows he’s not going to score goals from out there. He ends up, near enough, in the middle of the goal and it’s a good finish.

“That’s what all the top players do. They never stop until the whistle goes or the ball goes out of play.”

SALAH HAS LOST THAT SPARK

Towards the back end of last season, or when Salah returned from the Africa Cup of Nations following Egypt’s defeat to Sadio Mane-inspired Senegal in the final, he hasn’t looked the same.

That spark or energy just wasn’t in his game, it still didn’t stop fans from calling out for him to be handed a new deal in the summer, especially with Mane heading to Bayern Munich and that’s exactly what happened.

But those days when Salah was running off the shoulder, or into space in behind have been far and few between, former left-back Jose Enrique previously suggested Darwin Nunez taking up those central roles this season hasn’t helped, but this isn’t just a team issue, but a team that just hasn’t been refreshed enough and is now stagnating.
