Arsenal fans have been left disappointed after Houssem Aouar posted a photo last night, with the captain’s armband very prominently on display, on Instagram.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Aouar in recent weeks (Guardian), with Mikel Arteta’s side seemingly very keen to sign the French midfielder.
The Gunners have not been able to agree terms with Lyon as yet though, and his latest social media post has caused some concern.
With Memphis Depay potentially leaving Lyon, the French side look likely to need a new captain next season.
And there is a feeling from both Arsenal and Lyon supporters that Aouar’s latest post may just hint that he will be taking over the armband.
If Arsenal and Lyon supporters are correct in their analysis of the post then it, of course, becomes more unlikely that Aouar will move to the Emirates Stadium.
Lyon are likely to raise considerable funds for Depay if they sell him, and that may just allow them to keep hold of Aouar of another season, which would be a blow for Arsenal.
Indeed, if the post does hint that Aouar has been selected as Lyon’s next captain then that surely indicates that they have no plans to sell him, whatever the offer.
