Speaking on NUFC Matters, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Chris Wood and how he feels about his current role at Newcastle United.
The New Zealander has been something of a fringe player at St James’ Park this season.
He’s started just two league games this term, and most players in his situation would have every right to be frustrated.
Indeed, after signing in January, Wood has already slipped down the pecking order, and it’s fair to say that most players would be annoyed by that situation.
However, according to Jacobs, Wood has completely bought into the Newcastle mentality and is reportedly enjoying life as a Magpies player.

Wood not annoyed
Jacobs shared what he knows about Wood.
“Newcastle haven’t been throwing down a ton of money above market value. The only time they did that was with Chris Wood when they were desperate for some depth. Luckily for them he has contributed with a goal here and there, he’s bought into the mentality, and importantly, he’s not gotten annoyed that he’s not playing in every game. He’s enjoying life at Newcastle as a squad player,” Jacobs said.
Important
Wood may not be the most vital player to Eddie Howe’s plans at the moment, but his work behind the scenes is still important.
Yes, Wood doesn’t get on the pitch all that often, but football is a team game, and you don’t necessarily have to play to be a part of that.
Wood seems to be a great influence in the dressing room, and that is what has carried Newcastle so far this season.
The Magpies would be more than happy if every player they signed had Wood’s mentality.
