Simon Jordan has stuck the boot into Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings and claimed that he isn’t good enough for the club.
The towering Villa defender has played every minute of Premier League action for Dean Smith’s side so far, with the West Midlands club winning both of their games.
In fact, Mings, a £25 million signing last summer, even has a goal under his belt already after scoring in the 3-0 win away to Fulham this past weekend.
But the former Bournemouth stalwart was occasionally erratic last season as Aston Villa avoided relegation by a single point.
And Jordan has told talkSPORT that he doesn’t believe the big man is good enough for Smith’s side.
He said: “I worry about them at times defensively. Despite the fact he plays for England I don’t think Tyrone Mings is good enough, but that’s a different discussion.”
Only one team in the Premier League conceded more than the 67 goals that Aston Villa shipped last season – Norwich City, with 75 – but that’s over and done with.
If you were judging Villa stars by their form last season then Mings isn’t the only one who you could say isn’t good enough, but the fact is that they’re fourth in the table now – with a game in hand – and until their defence goes to the dogs again, Mings has to be given the benefit of the doubt.
As Jordan touched on, we’re talking about a full England international and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares this season.
