Forgotten trio Sandro Ramirez, Yannick Bolasie and Mo Besic must leave Everton this summer in order to play first-team football, former Toffees defender Michael Ball has told the Liverpool Echo.
When Farhad Moshiri replaced Bill Kenwright as the main man at Everton Football Club four years ago, Toffees fans everywhere must have felt that their wildest dreams had just come true.
After all, the Goodison Park faithful had grown tired with life on a shoestring budget. And Moshiri, with his proclamations of Champions League football and his desire to spend big, promised to give Everton financial freedom on an unprecedented scale.
In the last four years, Moshiri has spent half a billion on new transfers. But buying players is one thing – buying the right players is an altogether different challenge.
The Iranian billionaire has wasted so much of his hard-earned fortune on flops and misfits, with Sandro and Bolasie setting the club back a combined £33 million.
With both players set to become free agents in the summer of 2021, Everton are under pressure to find buyers this summer with Besic, a £14 million midfielder who recently returned from a loan spell at Sheffield United, also on the transfer market.
“They’re not good enough to play in our starting XI,” Ball says of a trio who appear to have worn the iconic blue shirt for the last time. “We’re moving forward as a club and unfortunately they are not going to be part of that.
“They have to be professional themselves, own up, and say, ‘Okay, it hasn’t worked out’. You don’t want to be sat unhappy at a club and not playing. Any footballer wants to play.
“Yes, we offered them big contracts at the time, we know that, but they have to be honest with themselves now. They have to play football. Money goes out the window.
“Everton will be hoping there are takers but Bolasie and Sandro will be difficult to shift.”
Sandro has enjoyed a decent spell at Real Valladolid in recent months, ending a 52-game goal drought at the La Liga outfit.
And Valladolid’s sporting director, Miguel Angel Gomez, has said that he would be interested in signing the Spaniard permanently, though he would struggle to pay the £5 million fee that Everton want.
