Leeds loan striker criticised by former Germany international.
Former West Germany strike legend Klaus Fischer has taken a potshot at Leeds United striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, writing off his chances of representing his country.
Lasogga was called into the German national squad in 2014 but did not manage to establish himself as a regular.
Fischer, who represented his country in the late 1970s and early 80s, was lamenting the fact Germany do not have a top striker to call upon.
He told Sport Bild: “Since the resignation of Miroslav Klose after the World Cup triumph in 2014, we have no really good strikerse. Mario Gomez certainly has his qualities, but he is already 32. And Sandro Wagner lacks the quality for the top.
“Davie Selke has disappeared in Berlin. Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who has been linked to the national team, does not have the class at all – otherwise Hamburg would not have let him go.”
Lasogga did struggle during the last two seasons, which as Fischer points out, is why Leeds were able to get hold of him.
He is on a season long loan at Leeds and has had an impressive start, scoring three goals and providing two assists in five matches.
Even if he goes onto score 20 goals, it may not be enough to get him into the German national squad given there will be scepticism over the fact he is doing it in England’s second tier, but Germany do not have great options and a confident Lasogga may not be the worst option if he ends the season well.
