Tim Sherwood has told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (15/12/20 at 10:05 pm) that Gabriel Jesus is ‘simply not good enough at this level’ after Manchester City dropped points at home to West Brom on Tuesday night.
The former Aston Villa boss also made it clear that he’s ‘not having’ Rodri, whose performance for Man City was ‘ponderous’ and negative last night.
With Sergio Aguero returning from injury, it will only be a matter of time before he dethrones Jesus from the starting XI, as the Brazilian simply hasn’t taken his chances.
Sherwood shared his thoughts on Man City’s performance last night and he was ultra-critical of the above two players.
“I’m not having Rodri,” said Sherwood. “I think he is very ponderous. I’m not sure what he does. He doesn’t break it up enough for me. He doesn’t pass it forward.
“When Phil Foden gets the ball, he looks to be progressive and he passes the ball forward. They are so reliant on Kevin de Bruyne. Aguero needs to get fit as quickly as possible.
“Jesus simply is not good enough at this level to take them where they need to be. He’s a good player to have around your squad. But if you are going to rely on him to score your goals, I think we have seen in recent times whilst Sergio has been injured, he’s not the answer.”
Since the start of the campaign, Man City have looked like a mid-table side trying to claw their way into Europe rather than a team looking to hunt down the champions of England.
Even with Liverpool’s injury problems, they have looked far superior from their rivals, who have seemingly fallen off a cliff this term.
Pep Guardiola is well aware that his players can motor forward at some serious speed at any moment, but they need to turn their motor on before they can put their foot down on the accelerator.
