Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez was left fuming as Colombia suffered a humiliating 6-1 World Cup qualification defeat to Ecuador, as reported by Antena2.
It is three years now since Spurs invested a club-record £42 million into a giant of a centre-half who shone as a fresh-faced Ajax side stormed to the 2017 Europa League title.
But, at the age of 24, the expectation was that Sanchez would have ironed out those kinks by now.
At his best, the 6ft 2ins man can be a colossal, commanding presence at the heart of the Tottenham back line.
At his worst, however, Sanchez looks passive, jittery and capable of the kind of calamitous errors that set West Ham on their way to that stunning North London comeback a few weeks ago.
While Sanchez was far from the biggest culprit in a dismal Colombia performance, each and every defender must accept their fair share of the blame after a six-goal drubbing.
“We all have a responsibility. We are all professionals and we have to face the situation. Everyone is aware that we cannot continue doing what we did in that game,” Sanchez explained, just days after a 3-0 defeat to Uruguay.

“We start with ourselves. We ourselves have the opportunity to examine ourselves and know that it was not good.
“The most positive thing is that it happened to us in the beginning (of the World Cup qualifying campaign). We know that this cannot happen to us again.”
It has not been a great couple of days for Tottenham defenders.
It was a misplaced Eric Dier pass that led to Belgium’s opening goal in their 2-0 triumph over England on Sunday, after all.
At least Joe Rodon looks the part, producing another superb display in Wales’ clash with the Republic of Ireland.
