Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been discussing the controversial handball decision during West Ham’s game against Chelsea at the weekend.
As we’ve all seen, Thomas Soucek seemed to handle the ball inside the box during the game at the London Stadium this weekend, but despite a VAR review, a spot kick wasn’t given.
Even Antonio, who is incredibly biased towards West Ham, was more than happy to admit on his podcast that this should’ve been a penalty, stating that he would’ve been fuming if the situation was reversed.

Antonio admits it’s a penalty
The West Ham striker spoke about the decision.
“Our luck needs to turn and I feel like it has turned. I’m not going to lie, I would be fuming if that wasn’t my pen. I would have lost my head, but there’s loads of things that should happen for us over the course of the season.
“I actually didn’t see it at the time but once I came off and they showed me it and it was a good counter-attack by them, it came to Gallagher and he shot and Tomas has dived like a goalkeeper and handballed it like he was tapping it around the post.”
How was it not given?
Honestly, if a West Ham player can admit that this should’ve resulted in a penalty, how can VAR decide to not give the decision?
Antonio has every right to look as this with his West Ham hat on and say it was a fair decision, but even he knows it’s ludicrous.
In a weekend of shocking refereeing decisions, this one took the biscuit, and the PGMOL certainly have a lot to answer for here.
