Ian Wright expressed his worry for Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold on ITV Sport on Wednesday evening.

The Liverpool academy product had to hobble off with what looked like a threatening injury during England’s 1-0 friendly win over Austria.

After all the talk was about whether or not Alexander-Arnold will be going to the Euros, well he’s in a situation now where, not selection, but injury might rule him out of the tournament.

Arsenal legend, Wright, was watching from the stands when Alexander-Arnold had to go off and, and going by TAA’s reaction, he thinks the Liverpool player is in for some bad news.

“You could see, even when he was covering his face with his shirt, he himself probably feels like it’s not going to happen for him,” said Wright.

“Simply because of the way you react. You’ll know instantly when you are injured and how long it’s going to be. The way he kicked the ball, it looked like a thigh or hamstring. I don’t know what it could have been.

“But if it’s that, and we are talking about 11 days (until Euro 2020 opener), then there’s no way he’s going to be able to make that.”

Well, if Alexander-Arnold is out of Euro 2020 then it will be interesting to see who Gareth Southgate calls up after his decision to select four right-backs.

The Three Lions coach could opt for some more attacking legs in the middle of the park and select Jesse Lingard, or pick Ollie Watkins because only two out-and-out number nine’s have been picked from the final 26.

Or he can add more defensive cover, more so at centre-back, with Ben White and Ben Godfrey in with a chance of earning a call to the main squad.

It also needs to be remembered that there are injury concerns to Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson, so Southgate might have to push for cover in those areas because of those concerns.
