Pep Guardiola has stated that he is ‘not going to believe’ those that think the Premier League title race is over between Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, as he told his post-match press conference.
Manchester City beat Brentford 1-0 on Wednesday, after Liverpool and Chelsea dropped points against Leicester and Brighton, respectively.
It now means that Chelsea are eight points behind the leaders, whilst Liverpool, who have played a game less, are nine points behind.
What makes the scenario even better for someone like Pep is that both Chelsea and Liverpool meet at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Despite that, Guardiola refused to believe that the race is over and made it clear that it’s his side’s ten-game winning run that has resulted in them being eight points clear.
“54 points to play,” said Guardiola. “So, when you put this into perspective, then eight points is ridiculous.
“But it’s happened because they dropped some points and especially we won ten games in a row.”
He then added later on his press conference: “All of you, thank you for your nice words because we win. But I am not going to believe the words you are going to say about thinking it’s already done.
“It’s expected because the teams that we have with Chelsea and Liverpool are more than exceptional. One is a champion from Europe and Liverpool have been our big rival for the past three or four years.
“The distance, not because they dropped points, but because we won ten games in a row.”
