Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Newcastle and the manager position at St James’ Park.
Steve Bruce has been sacked by the Magpies and the Tyneside club need a new gaffer.
Newcastle have been linked with a plethora of managers from Antonio Conte to Eddie Howe, but one of the most intriguing names to have been linked to Liverpool is Unai Emery.
The former Arsenal boss is reportedly a frontrunner for the job. However, Romano is led to believe that the Magpies could struggle to hire the 49-year-old stating that he’s 100 per cent involved in the process at Villarreal.
What’s been said?
Romano gave an update on Emery.
“With Unai Emery he is 100 per cent involved in the Villarreal process right now so it is not going to be easy too. It’s not going to be easy in this moment to find the right manager when you’re in this position in the table. Yes you have new ownership and a bright future coming, but right now, it’s not so easy,” Romano said.

Other options
Emery would certainly be an interesting appointment for Newcastle, but there are other options out there.
If getting Emery out of Villarreal would be such a tough task, then perhaps the Tyneside outfit should just focus on someone else.
The likes of Eddie Howe, Paulo Fonseca and even Antonio Conte are out of work right now, so you’d have to feel they’d take less convincing than Emery who seems to be very happy in Spain at the moment.
