Emerson Palmieri is frustrated by his back-up role at Chelsea after prospective moves to the likes of West Ham United came to nothing during the summer transfer window, in quotes reported by the Daily Mail.
The former Roma flyer isn’t the only man counting down the days until the January transfer window opens.
Italy manager Roberto Mancini sees Emerson as a big part of his plans at next summer’s European Championships and, as he made clear last week, three months stuck in Stamford Bridge purgatory is the last thing Emerson needs right now (Goal).
West Ham had shown a willingness to come to the rescue of the £26 million-rated left-back but, perhaps thanks to a dramatic upturn in Arthur Masuaku’s form, the window closed on Monday with Emerson still stuck in west London (talkSPORT).
“When I arrive here I change my head, I feel important and part of the group,” the 26-year-old said, clearly thrilled to be away from the English capital, if only for a few days.
“At Chelsea, things are not going as I wish in this part of the season. I just have to work.”
Despite arriving amid huge expectations during the final few months of Antonio Conte’s reign, Emerson has never managed to nail down a place in the Blues’ starting XI.
In fact, the Brazil-born full-back has not been included in a matchday squad for any of Chelsea’s Premier League games in 2020/21.
Then again, he didn’t exactly help himself during a rare outing in the EFL Cup defeat to Tottenham in September, switching off at the crucial moment as Erik Lamela snaffled a late equaliser.
