Alan Shearer has told Amazon Prime that he doesn’t believe Martin Dubravka can get back into Newcastle United’s team.
Dubravka has found himself playing second fiddle to Karl Darlow at Newcastle since returning from injury, despite being one of their most consistent performers over a number of years.
And Shearer just cannot see a route back into the team for Dubravka at the moment, after Darlow produced yet another excellent display last night.
“The question was put to him you’re in there, can you stay in there? Well, Dubravka is not getting back into this team with him playing like that,” Shearer said.
Dubravka being demoted to second choice has to be considered a surprise, given how highly rated the £5 million man (Guardian) is at St. James’ Park.
But Darlow has seized the opportunity which has been given to him by Steve Bruce this term, following the Slovakian’s injury at the start of the campaign.
Darlow has looked very assured in goal for Newcastle, and his performance last night was praised by most observers.
Darlow produced some brilliant saves to deny Liverpool, as Newcastle picked up a clean sheet and a point against the current Premier League leaders.
