Jamie Carragher agreed that Liverpool’s win over Rangers in the Champions League was ‘routine’ and how they just ‘lacked goals’ to make it more comprehensive at Anfield, as he told CBS Sports (04/10/22 at 10:35 pm).

The Liverpool legend also praised Trent Alexander-Arnold for his ‘fantastic’ performance and free-kick, which opened the scoring against the Scottish Premiership side, with Mohamed Salah adding a second from the penalty spot.

It has been a week of questions for this Liverpool team and for Alexander-Arnold as a player, but you can only produce your real talk out on the pitch.

A goal for Alexander-Arnold, a strong defensive display from the right-back and his team, three points and a clean sheet should keep the critics quiet for now.

Whilst Rangers did bang on Liverpool’s door towards the end of the game, for large parts, Jurgen Klopp’s men were pretty comfortable against the Glasgow side.

Whilst Carragher understands that Alexander-Arnold hasn’t been criticised for his attacking play of late, he did praise the Englishman for yesterday’s performance.

“I think so (a routine win), they played well and deserved it,” said Carragher. “We just lacked a few goals to make it comprehensive as it should have been.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has had a lot of criticism, but not for this (free-kick goal). His offensive play, we all know how great he is, scoring free-kicks from outside of the box and his general play was fantastic.”

CONSISTENCY NEEDED FOR LIVERPOOL

Liverpool now need to go on a run of winning games in order to get their previously rampant engine going.

Will the weekend’s game against Arsenal help? They are playing a team that could argue that they have been the best in England for this season alone.

Mikel Arteta’s side recently beat bitter rivals Tottenham and they are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League tree.

The Reds have a pretty decent record at the Emirates, and given that some may push towards Arsenal, this could be a game that favours Liverpool on Sunday.
