‘Not for me’: Agbonlahor dismisses one Tottenham claim and shares problem behind it

Gabby Agbonlahor has told talkSPORT (31/10/20 at 8:15 pm) that he cannot see Tottenham challenging for the Premier League title this season.

The former Aston Villa striker acknowledged that Jose Mourinho has a pretty strong attack at his disposal, but he feels defensively they ‘will not be up there’ with the teams competing for the big prize.

Even with their on-field and off-field problems, it’s obvious that Liverpool will be in the title race, along with the Manchester City, and according to Agbonlahor, the vastly improving Chelsea.

But prior to Spurs’ 2-1 win against Brighton last night, Agbonlahor shared the ‘problem’ area holding the North London club back in being Liverpool’s biggest title challengers.

“I have to disagree on that [Spurs being Liverpool’s biggest challengers],” said Agbonlahor. “I think Spurs defensively will not be up there for the teams going for the title.

“I feel, attacking wise, they are very good Spurs once Bale gets up to speed. But, not for me. I feel like it will still be Manchester City still up there with [Liverpool] and maybe Chelsea.”

Tottenham have to be considered title challengers because of their attack and the guy they have in the dugout – their recent win has moved them into second place.

Regardless of what people think of Jose Mourinho, he always has the capabilities of getting that 10%, and more, out of teams – and that’s needed for situations like this.

A lot will still depend on how Tottenham’s defence performs throughout the campaign, but what’s more important is keeping their forward line fit and firing.

If Spurs can do that, and hope Bale can now add consistency to his game following yesterday’s goal, then they are dark horses, at the very least.
