Neil Warnock has told TalkSPORT (Thursday, 9:10AM) that while Antonio Conte will keep Tottenham in the top four, he feels that the Italian’s style of play is “not exciting”. Spurs suffered a second league loss of the season on Wednesday.

Indeed, Tottenham’s struggles against the top six of late was apparent once again at Old Trafford. This season, they were lucky to get a point late on against a struggling Chelsea – before losing 3-1 to North London rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham, otherwise, have been excellent. They sit top of their Champions League group after four games, and they still sit in third place – winning seven of their 11 Premier League matches. Harry Kane has nine goals in those 11 games.

Warnock was discussing Tottenham and gave his verdict on the club’s style of play under Conte. He simply branded it as “not exciting”, despite their league placing. But he reminded fans that Spurs will be in the top four because of him.

“What Conte has done is that they have steadied the ship. They’re not going to set the world alight. But you know they are going to be round about, or there, in the top four with Conte, because he’s a good manager. But it’s not exciting.”

Warnock: Conte style of play will keep Tottenham in top four

Warnock is right. Conte will keep Spurs in touch but ultimately, it is not a style of play that will excite Spurs fans. At the end of the day though, if the Italian can turn Tottenham into a top-four, or a top-three side, that will please fans.

Look at the delight of the club’s fans when they got into the Champions League last season. There was no criticism of Conte’s style of play. Can they win the league with this style? Not this season, but perhaps, with some more cash.
