Newcastle United have just signed a new player, but it isn’t exactly the high-profile name that fans have been craving in recent months.
The St James’s Park faithful have been teased with all sorts of players since Mike Ashley agreed a £300 million deal to sell Newcastle to Saudi Public Investment Fun in April .
Philippe Coutinho, Gareth Bale and Edinson Cavani are some of the high-profile names linked to the Magpies, who are also apparently looking at Real Madrid hitman Luka Jovic.
But it was announced this morning that the North-East club had signed 18-year-old midfield talent Niall Brookwell.
The midfielder, who kicked off his career at Liverpool, has been snapped up by Newcastle after leaving the Kirkby academy.
Brookwell, who scored a hat-trick for their Under-18s earlier this year, will go straight into United’s Under-23 side rather than be considered a senior first-team player for now.
Here’s how some Geordie fans are reacting to the signing on Twitter:
He might not be a big name, but that doesn’t mean that the young lad, who was coached by Steven Gerrard at Liverpool, can’t become a big player at some point in the future and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares with their Under-23 side next term.
