Paul Gilmour told Sky Sports News (30/06/21 at 8:25 pm) that Fabio Paratici has ‘really driven’ Tottenham’s bold decision to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as manager.
The Sky journalist claimed that Nuno ‘wasn’t even in Tottenham’s thinking’ when he left Wolves at the end of the 2020/21 season.
Well, it’s an understatement to suggest that he wasn’t on Tottenham’s list because it’s been over two months since they sacked Jose Mourinho.
But after Daniel Levy made it clear he wants the club to return to attacking football, those in the Spurs boardroom searched far and wide to appoint a coach who is probably a younger version of the man they sacked.
Either way, Gilmour provided a lowdown on how Spurs came about bringing Nuno’s talents to their shores.
“Fabio Paratici has really driven this appointment,” said Gilmour. “We know that when Nuno first left Wolves, he was not even in Tottenham’s thinking.
“So, there has been a lot of convincing to do from Paratici to convince Daniel Levy and the board that this is the right appointment.
“And they must trust their sporting director. He is the one driving this managerial process.
“So, he has got his wish, he has got his man and those two will be very much looking forward to working with each other.”

Tottenham haven’t helped themselves by how they have gone about this appointment, so any slip-ups or problems may well be over-exaggerated during these coming months.
If Spurs don’t get off to a strong start and/or are playing a style of football that is deemed defensive then questions will be asked.
But the positives need to be looked at and that’s the job Nuno did at Wolves, from taking the club from mid-table in the Championship to being an established Premier League club, and achieving Europe along the way.
Plus, if this appointment was made last summer, when Wolves finished in a European place, then perhaps Nuno’s arrival would have been met with different voices.
