Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given his take on Leeds United winning promotion to the Premier League, as quoted in The Manchester Evening News.

Speaking just a few minutes ago (1:28pm), the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss raved about Leeds and the work that head coach Marcelo Bielsa has done at Elland Road.

The West Yorkshire outfit have won the Championship title this season and have clinched automatic promotion to the Premier League.

This is the first time that the Whites will play in the top flight of English football since 2004.

Guardiola told The Manchester Evening News (1:28pm): “Congratulations not just to MB but all Leeds. It is an historic team, after 16 years they are coming back and it will be good to go to play in that stadium against them.

“They have done an exceptional job, it was not easy mentally for the club after not being promoted last season. They did it one year later, which shows how consistent they are. Big congratulations.”

Exciting times for Leeds United

Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in England, and the Elland Road faithful are over the moon that the team are back among the big boys.

There are exciting times for everyone connected with the club, and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the Premier League next season.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail has claimed that Leeds will pay out £19 million in bonuses alone to players and staff after clinching promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites will also reportedly have to pay £5 million in transfer add-ons to other clubs after going up.
