Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham are close to signing Takehiro Tomiyasu after putting in an opening bid.

The London club have been linked with the Japan international over the past few days, and it seems as though things are progressing rapidly on that front.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about Spurs’ move for the Japan international.

“Fabio Paratici is working also on transfers. Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna as a right-back or a centre-back, he can play in both positions, he is highly appreciated,” Romano said

“Tottenham offered €18m to sign him, add-ons included. Bologna want €20-25m, so they are close, it’s not done yet, but it’s close.”

Perfect first signing

If there’s any area Spurs needed to bolter this summer it was at centre-back, and it seems as though they’re well on their way to doing just that.

Tomiyasu would be an interesting signing. Defenders from Serie A can often be brilliant, and given the fact he’s previously been described as ‘very strong’ and a ‘warrior’ he could be suited to English football.

Tomiyasu is interesting in that he is a truly two-footed defender, and with Nuno Espirito Santo coming in and likely to play a 3-4-3, that could be a vital attribute.

Romano says that a deal is close to being agreed, so don’t be surprised if we get some further news on this front sooner rather than later.
