Liverpool have made a strong start to the new season, but Jurgen Klopp must be fearing the worst over the future of midfielder Emre Can.

The Reds have won two and drawn one of their opening three games of the Premier League games, whilst they also saw off Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-offs to return to Europe’s premier club competition.

Klopp will be happy with Liverpool’s start to the season, with a number of players hitting the ground running in the opening month of the campaign – but one player may, bizarrely, be impressing a little too much given interest in his signature.

Midfielder Emre Can didn’t hit top form in the opening game against Watford, but he has kicked on since then, turning in an outstanding performance against Arsenal, which showed off his skill, athleticism and defensive ability in the perfect box-to-box display.

Can, 23, appears set for his biggest season for Liverpool since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, but that could leave the Reds vulnerable to losing the German international in 2018.

Can is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he could either sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January, or just move on as a free agent at the end of the season, and in either instance, Liverpool are left empty handed by Can’s departure.

With The Mirror claiming that talks over a new deal for Can have stalled, because the midfielder wants a release clause in his deal, Liverpool are now facing up to the possibility of the midfielder leaving over the next year.

Whilst Liverpool may be concerned about Philippe Coutinho’s future given Barcelona’s attempts to sign him over the summer, but they can at least stand firm on his future, as they did in recent weeks.

Yet, with Can, Liverpool could head into 2018 with no control over his future due to his contract running down, and that makes him the player Liverpool are at most risk of losing next year.
