Roy Keane has stated that he is ‘sticking’ with his choice of Liverpool winning the Premier League title at the end of the season, as he told Sky Sports PL after Manchester City’s win against Chelsea.
Reds legend Graeme Souness added that he has to ‘believe’ that Liverpool will ‘get their act together’ but he made it clear that the consistency levels haven’t been there from Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Both Liverpool and Manchester City have set some seriously high standards over the years, so the slight drop of levels will be pretty obvious and that’s the case now.
Nonetheless, both Keane and Souness shared their thoughts on the Premier League title race, as the Manchester United legend thinks it’s one of the most exciting for a very long time.
“I am sticking with Liverpool,” said Keane. “I think Man City [are other contenders]. Man United are doing well. I think it’s certainly the most exciting looking league we have had for the last 15-20 years.
“Leicester, Tottenham, but the top two I said it a couple of months ago I am going to still stick with it. Liverpool then Manchester City.
Souness added: “Liverpool haven’t shown the consistency that they have for the previous two years. They were off the charts with the consistency levels. Steam-rolling teams. Just not been there.
“They have shown it in fits and starts but I have to believe that they will get their act together in the second-half of the season.”
Manchester City are fifth in the Premier League table after their statement of intent win against Chelsea on Sunday.
Even though they have a depleted squad, they are four points behind current leaders Liverpool, but most importantly, they have a game in hand.
Even though Liverpool have the game in hand, they can still extend their lead at the top of the table tonight when they take on Southampton, so that physiological edge could be important if Jurgen Klopp’s men can secure three points ahead of some crucial fixtures.
