One of these days, Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is going to score a worldie.

The Ghana international has only managed one goal in 44 Premier League appearances since joining Arsenal in a £45 million transfer from Atletico Madrid in 2020.

That came in a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium a little earlier in the campaign.

However, the midfield general has been trying – and failing – to add to his tally ever since.

Partey came close to doubling his goal total for Arsenal this afternoon against Watford, curling narrowly wide of the post on 28 minutes.

And Alan Smith, speaking as a co-commentator live on Sky Sports, said: “His shooting this season has not been the best – in fact I think it’s a bit of a joke amongst Arsenal fans!”

It’s a matter of time before Partey scores a belter for the Gunners.

That’s because even Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested that he has every reason to take on ambitious shots, evident by his capacity for a worldie behind the scenes at London Colney.

Partey’s profligacy aside, today was brilliant for the Gunners.

Arteta’s side moved fourth in the Premier League table and best of all, they have three games in hand over their nearest rivals for Champions League qualification, Manchester United.
