Arsenal are waiting on last-minute fitness tests for Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale, while Mikel Arteta gave an injury update on Oleksandr Zinchenko for Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko ‘has not been able to train’

Mikel Arteta has revealed Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale need late fitness tests to face Manchester United, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is yet to train as the Arsenal defender continues to recover from injury after missing the last two games, via quotes by BBC Sport.

Arsenal travel to Old Trafford this Sunday and want to give Odegaard and Ramsdale every chance of featuring. The pair have started in each of the Gunners’ first five Premier League matches this term, with the former also taking over the club’s captaincy over the summer.

Zinchenko, likewise, began the campaign as one of the first names on Arteta’s teamsheets after a £32m move from Manchester City. He started in favour of Kieran Tierney at Crystal Palace, against Leicester City and AFC Bournemouth, but not against Fulham or Aston Villa.

The Ukraine international suffered a slight sprain to his left knee in training before hosting Fulham at the Emirates Stadium. Odegaard, meanwhile, was forced off against Aston Villa after a robust challenge from John McGinn, while Ramsdale also sustained a possible issue.

Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale facing injury tests in Saturday’s sessions

Arteta will be loath to travel to Manchester United without Odegaard or Ramsdale fit due to an injury. The former has provided three goals through his top-flight showings so far in 2022/23, while the latter has played every minute and has kept two clean sheets to date.

Zinchenko, meanwhile, offered one assist on debut against Crystal Palace to feed Gabriel Martinelli for the first goal of the season. The 25-year-old has developed a quick on-field relationship with the Brazilian, and has been missed during the Gunners’ last two games.

It is possibly unlikely that Zinchenko returns from injury to face Manchester United come Sunday, however, with the new Arsenal arrival yet to train with his teammates this week. Arteta, meanwhile, hopes to see Ramsdale and Odegaard train during Saturday’s sessions.

“Ramsdale and Odegaard have been assessed and we will see more tomorrow,” he noted. “Hopefully, they’ll be available to train with the team. Alex missed two games and has not been able to train with team, yet.”
