Speaking on BT Sport’s coverage of Liverpool vs RB Leipzig (10/3/20 8PM kick-off), Peter Crouch has praised Fabinho for his effective showing in midfield.

The Brazilian was put back into the midfield after a long spell of playing in the heart of the Liverpool defence, and he picked up where he left off in the middle of the park.

Fabinho absolutely ran the show, he dictated the game and broke down any semblance of Leipzig trying to form an attack.

“It’s not beautiful to watch at times, but he’s just in the right positions at the right time. His touch is nice, you know, he controls the game, I think he’s always calm in possession. I think he’s done a very good job at centre-half, but the biggest miss has been him in midfield,” Crouch said.

“This is the first time we’ve seen him since October in midfield and Liverpool look a much better side, and when Henderson gets back fit as well, that will make a massive difference.”

Fabinho may not be beautiful to watch, but he is certainly an effective footballer.

Style over substance far too often catches the eye of pundits in football, but Crouch has taken the time to analyse and appreciate exactly what Fabinho brings to the Liverpool midfield.

The ex-Monaco ace has really been missed in the middle of the park for the Reds, and if they’re to make this season a success, he’s going to be at the heart of that turnaround.
