Paul Merson has written on SportsKeeda that Liverpool winger Luis Diaz needs to be on top of his game week in and week out and take more responsibility due to the Sadio Mane’s departure from Jurgen Klopp’s side earlier in the summer transfer window.

The former Arsenal star has said that he likes Diaz, but he believes that the 25-year-old Colombia international winger needs to deliver the goods for Liverpool on a regular basis.

Senegal international forward Mane left Liverpool for Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

Mane left Liverpool a club legend who won the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League with the Reds.

Paul Merson on Liverpool’s Luis Diaz

Merson wrote on SportsKeeda: “Luis Diaz is doing well at the moment and this is a player I really like.

“That said, I want to see him produce those performances week in and week out and not be a flat track bully, as he’s someone who’ll have to take more responsibility this season due to Sadio Mane’s departure.”

Important player for the Reds

In our view, Luis Diaz is an important player for Liverpool and has done very well for the Reds since his move to Anfield in January 2022.

The 25-year-old hit the ground running at Liverpool, and his performances were a big reason why the Reds could take the race for the Premier League title down to the final day of the season and also reached the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Like most of the teammates, Diaz’s start to the new campaign has been mixed, but we cannot doubt his quality.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals in four Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far this season.

Diaz scored four goals and provided three assists in 11 Premier League starts for the Reds during the second half of last season.

The Liverpool star scored two goals and provided one assist in four Premier League starts in the UEFA Champions League during the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.
